PRODUCT INSPECTION INTERVALS
TECHNICAL DOCUMENT FS-TD0920-1
FALL SAFE® GENERAL STATEMENT FOR PRODUCT INSPECTION INTERVALS
The following statement applies to all FALL SAFE® fall protection products both new and already in use.
Countries with CE standard compliance: MUST
be formally inspected by a competent person other than the user at least every 12 months after the date of first use or more frequently if subjected to harsh conditions, excessive use, or a more restrictive local standard.
Date of first use:
The date the unit is removed from the original packaging and put in service. Date of first use shall be proven by writing using the record card part of the user instruction or alternative documenting by writing or electronic record system as Fall Safe Inspector or similar.
Where the date of first use is unknown, then the next provable date shall be used, e.g. date of purchase or date of manufacture.
While the statement above applies to all FALL SAFE® products, there are some products that have more specific recommended inspection frequencies and levels of qualification of the inspector determined by type of use as follows:
See Table 1. FALL SAFE® fall arrest blocks (also common named retractable type fall arrester or SRL) with following Article Numbers FS933, FS934, FS936 and Edge tested versions FS933E, FS934E, FS936E.
The competent person* performing the visual inspection according to Fall Safe instructions shall decide on his own responsibility:
If the fall arrest block passes the visual inspection successfully, this allows the fall arrest blocks to continue to be used for another period.
If the fall arrest block does not
pass the visual inspection successfully and if the unit can be opened (repairable), the fall arrest block shall be sent to a FALL SAFE® Technician** or FALL SAFE® authorized service center for repair and service. In the case of a non-repairable unit, the fall arrest block shall be removed from use.
See Table 2. for definitions of key terms.
